Welcome to the Sutherland Shire, Sydney - Lakewood, Denver U.S.A. Sister City Home Page. This Home Page has been setup as a common Bulletin Board for families from both Sutherland and Lakewood to keep up to date with what is happening in our Sister City Programs.
Since 1978, Sutherland Shire has had a Sister Cities Agreement with Lakewood, Colorado, USA. This agreement is culminated with the Sutherland - Lakewood Student Exchange Program, a unique exchange program in that it is a "twin" exchange. Australian students are paired with an American student and family. Sutherland students then travel to Lakewood to stay with their American family for the last six months of the year, and this is reciprocated by the American student travelling to Sutherland and staying with their host family for the first six months of the next year. This provides a unique opportunity for students from each country to experience life overseas with another family.

The Adult Exchange 2009
Residents of Sutherland Shire have been invited to experience the friendship and hospitality of our Sister City of Lakewood in Colorado. Each year we send students to Lakewood Colorado to have the experience of a lifetime and now it is the adults turn. Shire residents have the opportunity to experience Colorado at its best. Let the locals show you what they love about their home town. Participants are hosted in a home for 10 days and shown local places of interest for a nominal fee (approximately $200 USD). Cost of airfares, insurance and other tours outside the hosting period are paid for by the participant. The hosting period is planned for September 2009 (date to be advised). We would like more people to have the opportunity to get to know our friends from Colorado. If you have enjoyed sharing in any of our students journeys, maybe its time to start your own journey. Fundraising for 2009-2010
The Kaleidoscope group are holding a Trivia Night on Friday 3rd July at Jannali High School commencing at 7pm. Tickets may be purchased by calling Beth on 95890141 (AH) Cost for the evening is $15 Adults and $10 students. This will be their major fundraising event so come with a group of 10 of your friends and enjoy all the fun and show your support. The theme for the evening is Red, White and Blue. BYO drinks and nibbles for your table.
If you havent already purchased your tickets for the Movie Afternoon at Miranda Cinema on Sunday the 31st May, its too late as it is a sell out. Remember tickets are limited to the Trivia night so make sure to get your tickets early to avoid dissappointment. Fundraising is off and running so keep checking our calendar for the dates for events. The Kaleidoscope Exchange Program for 2009-2010
The Kaleidoscope group have been paired with their American partners and have spoken for the first time. As usual pairing was held on Sunday at Lakewood City Reserve, Bonnet Bay and everyone was very excited. Students looked with interest at the successful American applicants, wondering which one they would be partnered with. A large map of Lakewood Colorado showed them the Schools they would be attending. At last their partners were revealed and it was time to return home and wait for that 1st call from their new partner. I'm sure we all remember the excitement and nervousness of Pairings and that first of many contacts.
