My name is Ashlie O’Neill and I am excited to be the new Exchange Coordinator for Suthlak. My first experience with Sister Cities was back in 2005 when I was lucky enough to get a place in the Hawkesbury, Australia to Kyotamba, Japan exchange program. I loved every second of my experience, even the challenges and when I returned, I joined the Hawkesbury Sister Committee. I remained on the committee for many years before moving away to Sydney. My experience in Kyotamba began a lifelong relationship with travel and Japan. Since 2005 I have been lucky enough to lead a mayoral delegation, receive a scholarship to study in Niigata University for 3 months and also secure a position on the Japanese Government’s Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET). I spent 3 years living in Hyogo Prefecture whilst on the JET program and after returning decided to look for a job in International Education. My current position is at the Boston University Study Abroad Program in Sydney where I am able to assist up to 150 students who live, study and complete internships on whilst our program. In my spare time I am the Chair for the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme International and enjoy travel, spending time with my partner, Chris and step son Flynn and exploring the Sutherland Shire (as I am still relatively new to the area). I am will also start working towards a Masters in Mental Health Practice as well this year.
I am thrilled to be working with the team at Suthlak and look forward to meeting everyone from the candidates, and families through to the committee in the US and local communities.
Please feel free to reach out to me at any time to say hello or ask questions. Cheers,
