Lakewood City, is in Jefferson County, central Colorado; near Denver. In 1969, an Amalgamation of small communities united and incorporated into the city of Lakewood.

Today, it is one of the most urban areas of the Denver metropolitian area, at the same time , one of the most rural and unspoiled. The City's impressive total 6,000 acres of parkland include trails that wind to the top of Green Mountain. This very urban city still retains a rural, western flavour. Among the programs Lakewood sponsers are sister cities programs with Australia, England and Germany. Lakewood also sponsers a cultural exchange program with Chester England.

In Lakewood you can still ride by working farms and ranches and find housing areas where horses can still be boarded in backyards. It has the amenities of a big City and the pleasures of a rural area the big City and the mountains are only 15-20 minutes away. An anual event on Labor Day weekend is the Lakewood on Parade. This comunity celebration, begun as part of the 1976 centennial/boicentennial festivites, brings together the community for three days of games, entertainment, activities and parades.

Population: 126,481 (1990); 144,126 (2000).
